About Me
I was born and raised in Dortmund, a big city in North-Rhine Westphalia in Germany. Growing up in a family of healthcare workers, I discovered my fascination for (health) science early on. In 2016, I moved to the Netherlands to study Health Science at Maastricht University. Through my work as a student ambassador I learned about European Public Health and decided to switch my Bachelor's programme. A decision I am still very proud of.
While obtaining my Bachelor's degree in European Public Health I specialized in European public health law and patients' rights. I conducted my thesis research on whether European consumer rights legislation would be a sufficient framework to protect patients' rights in the context of government-led moves towards participation societies. Conducting this research taught me the importance of accessible legal guidance and to find my voice and translate the abstract into the practical.
I enrolled into the Master's programme Governance and Leadership in European Public Health at Maastricht University in pursuit of more in-depth knowledge on personal and professional growth. During my studies I was given the opportunity to work with the WHO-ASPHER Working Group on Professionalization, where I researched codes of ethics and their creation. At the end of my placement and thesis period I summarized all of my sources into two comprehensive documents and from those I generated a theoretical model and prototype code of conduct. This provides public health organizations and institutions valuable resources to create codes of conduct reflecting their own values, needs and norms.
I was invited to present the preliminary results of my research at the WFPHA 17th World Congress on Public Health (WCPH) held in Rome in May of 2023. Building on all of the feedback, support and encouragement of my mentors and colleagues I ended up with a variety of innovative and comprehensive materials I have created over the course of 10 months. The final results and products of my research were presented at the ASPHER Young Researchers Forum on November 8th at the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) in 2023.
After concluding my research I wrote all that I have learned and created into a manuscript that is currently in the publishing process.
